In this BIT: Let’s stop self doubt and boost our confidence together! Find out how to believe in yourself, be more confident, and the truth about visualization below.

No matter who we are, we all struggle to believe in ourselves at times. Whether we question our physical strength, ability to overcome a challenge, make new friends, or grow a skill, everyone goes through periods of self doubt. While it’s easy to slip into a spiral of self pity and doubt, we must find and channel our inner confidence. Why? Research has shown that individuals and teams with greater confidence perform better too. Start with the self-confidence, believe in yourself, work hard, and watch as the results follow! We get it though – it’s not easy to just wake up and change our mindset. Join us below as we share our top tips on how to believe in yourself, and boost your own confidence.

1. Think Back

More often than not, when we’ve overcome a challenge or adversity, we leave it in the past and move onto the next. In order to believe in yourself, take a moment to step back and recall all of the past moments where you have overcome a barrier. Perhaps you aced a challenging test, made a new friend at summer camp, or recovered from an injury. If you did it once, you can do it again.

2. Power Pose

Our physical stance has a lot to do with how we feel about ourselves on an internal level. If we have a slouched back, drooping shoulders, and hide our hands behind our back, we are less inclined to feel positively about ourselves. Instead, straighten out your back, put your hands on your hips or crossed, and force a slight smile. This body language evokes confidence, and helps us feel more confident too! Try this positive body language while feeling low self esteem, or before heading into a major exam, meeting, or sports game.

3. See It, Believe It

At times, the best way to believe in yourself is seeing yourself accomplish the goal your barrier you’ve got on your mind – also known as visualization. While we obviously cannot actually see our future selves, we can take a moment to imagine ourselves overcoming this challenge or reaching a goal. Take five minutes, sit somewhere comfortable, close your eyes, and see yourself getting the audition for a lead in the play, shooting a three-pointer, or winning a specific award. But – and this is key – don’t just imagine yourself winning or succeeding. What are the steps you take to get there? Use visualization to imagine yourself training, speaking out loud, practicing for hours! Once you’ve accepted what this path may look like, it makes it far easier to turn into reality.

We hope that these tips on how to be confident help you believe in yourself, bringing you a small bit of happiness.
