Our Top Study Tips To Surviving Finals
In this BIT: Welcome to our Finals Week Survival Guide, filled with study tips, time management strategies, exam tips, and more advice.
Reviewing months worth of content, writing large exams, and balancing all of this with our usual busy routines can be stressful. Finals are the final stretch before summer! How can we get through this period of time without feeling too overwhelmed, still finding happiness daily, and doing well on our exams? As a teen who has (and is) experiencing finals, this is my Finals Survival Guide. Below, you’ll find study strategies, time management tips, and hacks to de-stress.
1. Practice Tests
Review old tests and quizzes to re-gain an understanding of how your final exam might be structured. Check out online resources (i.e. search up Grade 11 Biology Practice Test), or ask your teacher for suggestions. Additionally, go through old tests and quizzes by covering the answers with a piece of paper, and checking your knowledge! Often, questions from previous tests may even reappear, with mild modifications, on your exam.
2. Milestones
Set yourself study milestones, to ensure that you review everything that is needed, without the additional overwhelm. For example, if your math course had six units, make it your milestone to review a unit per day, prior to the exam. This method will prevent you from cramming, and from over-studying for one class. Once you’ve reached your milestone for the day, move onto another class, or take a break!
3. Take It Slow
While writing a final exam, we often feel stressed! These large tests are worth a higher percentage of our grade, and contain a lot of content. When we feel stressed, we want to escape the situation, leading us to speeding through the exam. However, take it slow, and use up all your time. Something that I like to tell myself is I will thank myself later. Even if you don’t feel like spending a multitude of hours writing this exam, or adding more description to your essay, you’ll thank yourself later, and feel good knowing you gave this exam your best shot. Most of all, be sure to go over your exam once or twice prior to handing it in – making sure you’ve filled in the correct bubbles and haven’t missed a back page.
We hope that these final exam tips help you during finals season, bringing you a small bit of happiness.
