Celebrating small accomplishments is not only easy but can also give us a lot of happiness. Plus, celebrating small wins is super easy as it is a simple habit that we can incorporate into our daily lives. We all achieve small things every day, such as making our bed, getting to school on time, holding a door open for someone, or maybe saying “hello” to a neighbour on a way to school….and noticing these small accomplishments and celebrating them can lift our mood, and make our day just a little bit better.
But, how does celebrating our small wins actually make us happier?
Celebrating our smaller achievements boosts our self esteem and self confidence, motivating us to continue working hard on goals.
Celebrating our wins stimulates and sparks the reward section in our brain, which releases happiness hormones. This makes us happier and gives us pride, which continues to give us motivation and happiness, helping us create more achievements. Our brains, and subsequently us, feel happy when given rewards. A study from Harvard Business School found that students that tracked their small achievements on a daily basis increased their productivity and motivation! The Harvard Business Review found that daily work life had made such a large impact on students’ productivity and creativity, and when students took a lot of small steps, it turned out to create an amazing outcome. The more small wins the students had, the more motivation and happiness they received.
Did you know that the way a habit is formed is not just by completing the same task again and again? When you celebrate those small wins, dopamine, a happy hormone, is released into your brain. This dopamine reinforces the habit that you’re trying to learn, plus gives you more motivation. Positive emotions create more change than constant practice. Small celebrations are KEY to creating stronger happiness habits as well as feeling happier in general.

Overall, try to celebrate and notice the good things in everyday life, because they happen frequently, and truly make the biggest difference in helping you become a happier person. Try acknowledging with your family or a friend, to make it even more fun and impactful for all of you. Perhaps go around the dinner table and share your small wins.
We hope that this inspires you to appreciate your small accomplishments.
