Be More Productive With These Hacks
In this BIT: Ready to get everything done? Feel more motivated and be more productive with our favorite (and very easy!) tips and tricks.
We’re all busy. Whether it’s with work, sports, chores, extracurriculars, school, and beyond. Sometimes, just the sheer thought of our to-do list is overwhelming! Rather than getting started, we sit and worry about all that needs to get done. Have you ever felt this way? Me too! Nonetheless, navigating our day in an effective and efficient way allows for more free time. This gives us time to spend with loved ones, and time to take care of personal wants and needs. Best of all, finding ways to enjoy the process of moving through our day brings a Small Bit of Happiness. Ready to be more motivated? Whether it’s how to be more productive at work, school, or beyond, we’ve got you covered. Keep reading for our top tips on how to get everything done and be more productive.
1. Single-Tasking
Multi-tasking sounds like a great way to be more productive and get more done. Right? At times, this is certainly the case. You can upload a school video project while cleaning your room. Or, go on a walk with your dog and listen to a book. However, single-tasking is the best way to stay on task and finish what we need to do in a timely (and high-quality!) manner. Especially when it comes to being productive at work or school, single-tasking is your best bet.
2. Set Clear Goals
It’s difficult to get things done if you don’t know exactly what you need to get done. Take an English assignment, for example. You need to work on this project, as it’s due in two days. Is your priority for tonight to work on your English assignment? If so, be specific. Is it to write part of your final paragraph and read over it? Or, maybe just write the final paragraph? When we don’t set clear goals, it’s much easier for us not to get everything done, and have more work for later. In this particular example with an English assignment, you could say, since it’s due in 2 days, you’ll finish the final paragraph tonight, and edit it all tomorrow.
Or, if you have to clean your room, establish which parts of your room you need to clean – perhaps tidy your desk, or make your bed? By setting these clear goals you won’t get overwhelmed by what you need to do, and spend too much time on things that you can do another day.
3. The Pomodoro Technique
My friend from school actually introduced me to this technique, and it really is a good one! Work in focused intervals, followed by a break. So, study for 25 minutes, and then let yourself scroll on your phone for 5 minutes. Or, if you’re trying to get a workout or training session in, exercise for 25 minutes, and then take a 5 minute rest. This way, you’ll be more motivated and less tempted to go on your phone during your focused work time, since you’ll know that a break is coming!
4. Better Done Than Perfect
This is a mentality that, despite being difficult, is important to accept. Nothing in this world is perfect, so we need to accept the world’s imperfections, other people’s imperfections, and our imperfections. This is essential in our constant quest to get everything done. It’s okay to not create the most perfect work. For example, if you’ve got a school assignment due tomorrow, it’s okay to submit something that isn’t perfect. It’s okay to not have every piece of clothing in your closet folded perfectly. This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t pour effort into our relationships and work; I’m merely saying that we ought to try our best, and accept the imperfections that come in small details, deadlines, or simply because we are human. The next time that you find yourself wanting to make sure something is perfect before you submit it, keep in mind that it’s better done than perfect – and just because it isn’t perfect does not mean you didn’t work hard.
We hope that these productivity tips help you get more done, bringing you a Small Bit of Happiness.
