Background of a colorful street, with "How It Affects Our Mood: Color Psychology" written below.

In this BIT: Discover the effects of color, what to wear and colors to wear to feel happier, and more about color pyschology.

Did you know that what we wear can change how other people think of us, as well as how we feel about ourselves? Color psychology is a powerful tool that we can use to help make ourselves look more approachable or feel more confident and happy. The spectrum of colors in our world each possess the ability to evoke specific emotions, stir thoughts, and influence the relative feelings of both ourselves and others. What is color psychology (yes, there is a science to this!), let’s break it down.

Color psychology is the study of how different colours affect us and can change the way we think or feel.  Colors that are on the warmer side of the spectrum, such as yellow and red and orange can make us feel more cozy or warm, but they can also evoke or remind us of feelings of anger or unhappiness.  However, on the other side of the spectrum, cool colors, such as blue, purple, or green can help us feel calmer, but also indicate feelings of sadness. Take a minute and think about a painting that you find attractive. What colors does it have? Does it evoke specific emotions?  Yep, that’s color pyschology and the effects of color at work!

When you wear a certain color, it may influence the way that people feel towards you, but it can also help you direct your emotions.  For example, when you want to feel bold and confident for the first day of school, wearing red can help you achieve these feelings – the color itself is associated with motivating people (us included) to take action.  Through being intentional with your clothing, you start to carry yourself in a manner that you desire, and influence your own mood.  Other examples include orange for when you want to feel extroverted, yellow when you want to feel happy, green when you want to be approachable, blue, again, for confidence, and purple when you want to feel unique.

Below, find a list on how different colors to influence your feelings and how others see you.

– Black is good for feeling strong, but in a less bold manner. It will help others take you more seriously.

– Red can make you feel more bold and you will stand out around others.

– Orange grabs the attention of others and will help you feel more energetic.

– Yellow helps you feel more joyous and will make others view you as energetic.

– Green can make you feel calm and can make you seem approachable.

– Blue can make you feel confidence and is a comforting color or approachability.

– Purple can make you seem more mysterious, and will help you feel more special.

– Pink helps connect with others better and evokes calmness and gentleness.

Colors can help you feel better about yourself and also affect how others view you. Remember, colors and the effects of color won’t make or break if a person likes you, but it will aid with first impressions. You can also utilize color psychology when you want to boost your confidence in certain situations.

We hope that this BIT helped you learn more about the power of color pyschology and clothing on our mood, can affect us, bringing you a small bit of happiness.
