Mid-Year Personal Reset Guide
In this BIT: We’re halfway through the year! For the sake of self care activities, check out this personal reset guide, featuring self care ideas and self improvement tips.
The fact that we’ve already hit the mid-point of the year is wild! I swear, snow was just falling and we were all wrapping up the excitement of the holidays. Now, summer break is in full swing! The grass is green and heatwaves are on the rise. With the year halfway through, now is a fantastic time to take a breath. Take a moment. Take a step back. Evaluate how this year is going. Setting new goals at the beginning of a new year is great, but it’s never too late to get a feel for how they’re going, shift them, get yourself back on track, or set new goals altogether. Life is constantly changing, so it’s normal for our goals and ideas to be changing too! Below is a guide on how to have a personal reset.
1. So Far
For many of us, we are always looking ahead. We’re thinking of what we need to achieve next, our next goal, our next plan, constantly thinking into the future. Of course, being planned and prepared for the future is a fantastic strength! However, at this point in the year, take a moment to make a list of how far you’ve come since January. Now that it’s summer break – how have you advanced in school? How have your relationships and friendships changed? Are you happy with them? What have you discovered about yourself?
But most importantly, rather than only thinking about how far you’ve got to go, give yourself credit for how far you’ve come. As a part of your self care activities, write down 3 things that you’re proud of yourself for progressing in this year! Maybe, it’s leaving a toxic friendship, pulling your biology grade up before the school year finished, and improving on writing and speaking a second language.
2. See What You’ve Learned
It’s important to always be learning and growing, and over the past 6 months, each and every one of us has faced adversities and made mistakes – big or small. We’ve all had moments of self doubt, but we’ve also experienced personal growth. Now, take a moment to think back and identify one major thing that you have learned over the first half of this year. It might be a personal lesson, for instance that you really like how much better you feel with more sleep; the fact that you recharge by being on your own; a relationship lesson, like perhaps that this friend is truly your biggest supporter; or a skill, like you learned how to drive or cook a new recipe. Write down your proud learning!
3. Looking Ahead
As we hit the halfway point of the year, let’s now also think ahead. This time, six months in the future, when you are reflecting on the entirety of the upcoming six months, what is one thing that you want to have changed, within your life? Perhaps this is a new skill you want to learn, maybe it’s becoming better at prioritizing yourself, putting up boundaries, or saying NO to things you don’t want to pursue. Choose one thing that you want to be thinking about, doing, or living differently by the end of the year, and write it down! An important part of a personal reset includes planning ahead and preparing for the rest of your year.
We hope that these self care ideas help you see how far you’ve come this year, and feel confident going into the second half of the year, bringing you a Small Bit of Happiness.
