How To Stop Scrolling

Comparison, doom scrolling, and loneliness. These are all negative aspects of social media. However, it is important not to forget all the positive elements of these platforms! Connection, new knowledge, and a broadened perspective. For many of us, cutting social media out altogether is not the solution to the negative aspects of it. Rather, let’s focus on using social media mindfully, and understanding how to set up barriers and boundaries.

1. Limit

Too much of anything isn’t good for us! Set up limits on how much you allow yourself to use any given app. You can set time limits through your phone, or directly through social media. By creating a time limit, you can truly enjoy the time that you do spend online, and pursue distraction free activities and connections, without the need to always check your phone.

2. Make A Goal

Rather than doom-scrolling your FYP for your entire time bank, make a specific goal of what you want to see on your app. Do you want to interact and engage with friends? Do you want to see what your favorite influencer has been up to recently? Do you want to find a new recipe, room decor inspiration, or art ideas? Be intentional with what you’re seeking online to make better use of your time!

3. Unfollow Negativity

Some accounts may just set us off! Unfollow or unadd any accounts or influencers who you compare yourself to, get irritated by, or simply disagree with in general. If you feel stuck, as the account that brings you emotions of negativity belongs to someone you know in real life, simply use the ‘hide’ function on their account. There is plenty of negativity in our world, we don’t need to endure more.
