What To Do At School: School Bucket List

In this BIT: What to do at school? Check out our school bucket list! It’s filled with ways to combat being bored in class and have fun at school.

Going back to school can feel like a lot! Whether you’re entering another year of grade school, a fresh start at a new school, or your first day of university, those same bubbling feelings arise. We’re excited, uncertain, nervous, but also intrigued by what the upcoming months hold. No matter what, a new school year is also a fresh start. There are so many little ways to make it genuinely fun. It’s like the academic New Year! And like with any New Year, it’s great to go in with a goal or two in mind: stay more organized, get X grade in a class, or make a new friend.

But, rather than creating of only setting goals around grades, productivity, or getting more organized, we’ve compiled a different kind of back-to-school list. Below is a bucket list filled with things that will make you laugh, connect with people, try something new, and actually enjoy the year. Pick the items that sound fun, add a few of your own, and see how many Small Bits of Happiness (good memories and positive parts of daily life) you can find this year!

The List Begins…

Take first-day-of-school photos: In front of your house or school – with friends or solo. Just capture the moment! Your future you will be grateful.

Go to a school sports game: Football, volleyball, basketball, soccer – pick one, grab some friends, and actually cheer.

Go ALL OUT for a themed day: Pajama day? Wear the pajamas. School colours day? Commit. Sometimes being enthusiastic is way more fun than trying to look cool.

Join a club you’ve never tried before: You don’t have to become president or commit for the full year. Just show up once, keep an open mind, and see what happens.

More Bucket List Ideas

Have a study date with a friend: Of course, don’t forget some tasty study snacks!

Bake something and bring it for your friends: Cookies can improve almost any school day.

Compliment someone you don’t normally talk to: Tell them you love their shoes, their presentation was amazing, or their hair looks great. Tiny interactions can completely change someone’s day.

Go to a school play, concert, or performance: Support the people who have spent weeks practicing for it.

Make the ultimate school-year playlist: Fill it with songs for getting ready in the morning, driving to school, studying, and celebrating that Friday drive home.

Decorate your locker, desk, or study space: Add photos, print-out quotes, stickers/magnets, and other items.

Ask someone new to hang out: The person you think already has plenty of friends might be hoping someone asks them too.

Have an after-school coffee, matcha, or hot chocolate date: Solo, with friends, or a study group!

Go to at least one school event you would normally skip: Sometimes the nights you almost don’t go to become the ones you remember most.

Most importantly, make it your goal for this school year to stay in the present moment. Stop waiting for Friday, the next break, the end of exam season, or for summer break. There will absolutely be stressful days, awkward days, boring classes, friendship drama, assignments you don’t want to do, and mornings when getting out of bed feels nearly impossible. But, by actively seeking out tiny moments of excitement, positivity, and fun, you can truly create a more memorable and happy experience — and have more fun at school.

Choose 3-4 (or more!) bucket list items and send them to a friend, inviting them to join you. We hope that these back to school bucket list items help you avoid being bored in class and bring you a Small Bit of Happiness.
